One thing I learned was that dogs have to go through very hard training to become a "canine companion".
I was surprised to discover that people with all sorts of disabilities besides being blind (like Autism) can register to receive a Canine Companion.
I think it is important to know something about Canine Companions for independence (CCI) because if you see someone with that kind of Dog (usually with a vest:) ) then, you will be informed about that dog and what it had to go through to be there helping that person.
